My secret boyfriend Anthony Bourdain is trapped in Beirut. World War freaking III breaks out and all you’re worried about is a celebrity chef? Why, yes. If it were Bobby Flay, I’d say open up a can of nuclear whoopass… but Bourdain? Oh, the humanity.

Thanks for the good thoughts and well wishes. We are all of us (Diane, Jerry, Toddles, Tracey and me) in good health, good spirits and working ferociously on our tans and sipping blender drinks while watching the fireworks from a secure location. Our masters at Travel Channel have made sure we are being well looked after. Though I’m not sure the “gold-plated, monkey-navigated rocket-sled” I requested as an exfiltration vehicle will be laid on imminently… we have nothing to complain about. Particularly compared to the locals who are having an atrocious time of it. This is a great city — filled with many lovely, proud and generous people and it’s heartbreaking missing so much of it. Worse seeing all that pride and hope and tolerance turn overnight to grim resignation. Hope to return to shoot here someday and finish what we started.

Hey thanks for this link, I had no idea. I just worked with Anthony on a podcast last month in Vancouver, http://www.raincoast.com/podcast/index.html , I’m going to cross my fingers for his safe return.
I do feel for him and his team, really I do (um, not to mention the Lebanese who don’t have the power of the Travel Channel to protect them)–but I would feel much worse about say, Ming or my secret boyfriend Alton Brown. You see, Bourdain is very disrespectfult to vegetarians, and even though he’s funny when he does it, it still bugs me. (Also, the guy who played him on the fictionalized tv show about his so-called life was way cuter. Boy, that show got cancelled fast!)
